Dominican preparation
The preparation of the chalice during a High Mass in the Dominican Rite was performer before the chanting of the Gospel at the sedilla. As we may see in the photo, the sacred ministers sat according to their rank (from the altar: the priest, the deacon and the subdeacon standing with the chalice), contrary to the Roman Rite where the priest was flanked by the levites. Moreover, they used to cover their knees with a gremiale. Whom did the variety of rites bother?
