Cruets from the first quarter of the 16th century, gilded gold, Hungary. The foot and belly are decorated with pear and leaf motifs, while the leg and the neck are decorated using the filigree technique. A notable detail is the long, S-shaped spout in the shape of a dragon’s head and the floral finial of the lid. The vessels are thought to have been crafted for the cathedral of Great Varadin, one of the burial places of the Hungarian kings (now Oradea in Romania).<\/p>\n
