The penitential procession that passed through the streets of Milan after the Soviet military intervention during the uprising in Hungary in 1956. It is led by the Archbishop of Milan, Giovanni Battista Montini, carrying a large crucifix, assisted by the cathedral canons. The prelates, headed by the metropolitan, are dressed in solemn choir dresses, i.e. cappa magna put on roquets, whose hoods, as a sign of penance, cover their heads, which is one of the few cases of practical use of this cappa magna element. One of the photos clearly shows the dress, characteristic for the master of ceremonies of the local Ambrosian Rite, whose very wide sleeves protrude from under the surplice.<\/p>\n
