Cappella Papale

To the Lateran

The Holy Father Paul VI during the procession to the Pontifical Archbasilica of the Most Holy Savior, St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist in the Lateran during the solemn ingress to his titular cathedral, November 10, 1963. The photo shows the Pope in a white mantum and tiara, carried on the sedia gestatoria, under a canopy. He is flanked by courtiers carrying two fans and ceremonial maces. Members of the Noble and Swiss Guards accompany this part of the procession. Behind the litter is one of the papal masters of ceremonies accompanying the prelates in croccias, one of whom is visible carrying the precious mitre. In front of the litter walk the Privy Chamberlains of the Cape and Sword, among whom is the Prefect of Pontifical Ceremonies, Monsignor Enrico Dante.
