Consecration of Bishop Donahue
The photo shows the episcopal ordination of Rev. Stephen Donahue (1893-1982), auxiliary bishop of New York, which he received in St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 1, 1934. To the right of the newly consecrated bishop (in a white chasuble and holding a crozier) stands the principal consecrator, Metropolitan of New York Cardinal Patrick Hayes, whose choir cassock’s train is held by pages standing behind him. The two co-consecrators are visible in copes and white miters: Archbishop ad personam and bishop of the Diocese of Rochester Edward Mooney (left) and Bishop John Mitty, coadjutor of the Archdiocese of San Francisco (right).
