Silks, trains and ermines,  Privilegiati

At St. Helen’s

A canon of the Collegiate Basilica of St. Helen in Birkirkara (Malta) with a hood of the cappa put on the head during the adoration of the Cross on Good Friday [source]. It was the only day of the year when those granted the privilege of using cappa praelatitia could unroll its train and then drag it on the ground as they were approaching the crucifix. In this case, as it is now only a symbolic accessory, it is impossible.
