In ruins

The Primate of Poland, August Cardinal Hlond, during the Corpus Christi procession in the ruins of Warsaw destroyed by the Germans, 1946. In March of that year, by decision of Pope Pius XII, the Archdiocese of Warsaw was joined by a personal union with the Primate’s Archdiocese of Gniezno, which allowed the Primate, by appointing a special Primate’s Council, to take an active part in the reconstruction of churches in the country’s capital.
