Southern Barbarians

Fragment of a Japanese folding screen (byōbu) decorated with paintings entitled Arrival of the Southern Barbarians, attributed to Kanō Naizen, dated to the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. It depicts a Holy Mass in a temple in the architectural style traditional for this culture. Above the altar, covered with a tablecloth of oriental aesthetics, a stylized representation of the blessing Christ is visible.
