Corpus Christi 1929
Holy Father Pius XI adoring the Blessed Sacrament on the thalamus platform carried by the sediari during the Corpus Christi procession, June 25, 1929. It was the first time since 1870 that, as a result of the signing of the Lateran Treaties and the normalization of relations between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Italy, the papal procession went to St. Peter’s Square, circling it under Bernini’s colonnade.
