Corpus Christi in Lisbon

The procession of Corpus Christi leaving the Cathedral of Saint Mary Major, led by the Patriarch of Lisbon, José Sebastião Cardinal Neto O.F.M. Disc., 1907. The first pole of the canopy carried over the Blessed Sacrament is being held by the King of Portugal, Carlos I, called the Diplomat or the Martyr. The photograph shows a patriarchal falda, which, apart from the fans also visible in the photo, was one of the unique privileges of the Archbishop of Lisbon, aiming at imitating the liturgy of the Pope.
