Salve, Regina

Pius XII praying before the painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa  in the chapel of the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo. On the wall there is a fresco depicting the defence of Jasna Góra against the Swedish army. On the other side there is, not visible in the photo, a fresco depicting the Battle of Warsaw (1920): it was painted over under the pontificate of Paul VI and uncovered only for the personal request of pope John Paul II.
