Holy Father John XXIII, supported by the papal master of ceremonies, Fr. Enrico Dante, during the adoration of the cross on Good Friday. What is characteristic is that the crucifix lies on the steps of the altar, instead of being supported by two ministers, which was a feature of the rites before the reforms of his predecessor, Pius XII. This confirms the existing records that John XXIII was eager to restore in the papal liturgy at least some elements of the old Holy Triduum, which had been abolished only a few years earlier.
