Adventus – the ancient Romans used that word to denote a solemn welcome ceremony for the emperor arriving at a city; usually the city was caput orbis terrarum, i.e. Rome. Since the time of the Dominate the emperors, as the rulers of the world, started to address themselves as dominus et deus.
