Mandatum

Cardinal Emmanuel Suhard, Archbishop of Paris, during the Holy Thursday Mandatum ceremony, 1947. The bishop, wearing an alb, a purple stole and a miter, kneels on a pillow and, after washing the cathedral chorister’s right foot, kisses it in a gesture of love and humility. On the right side of the photo, one can see one of the canons assisting with the ceremony, wearing a rochet and a mozzetta.
