Mass in the ruins of St. George’s Cathedral

Prayers at the foot of the altar during the Solemn High Pontifical Mass celebrated by Archbishop Peter Amigo, Bishop of Southwark (England), in the ruins of St. George’s Cathedral in London, bombed during World War II, July 1947. The ceremony was related to the anniversary celebration of the activities of the Knights of St. Columba, an organization of lay men founded in Glasgow in 1919, which is to support the missionary efforts of the Catholic Church and work for the spiritual and material good of members of the Order and their families in England, Scotland and Wales.
