Nuncio Roncalli
Apostolic nuncio, abp. Angelo Roncalli, listening at the throne to the proclamation of the Gospel during a solemn pontifical High Mass celebrated in the Parisian cathedral of Notre Dame. Deacons assistants in dalmatics are standing next to him, whereas in the foreground is his Master of Ceremonies: his short-sleeved “surplice” is, so called, cotta. Attention is drawn to the beautiful, semi-Gothic chasuble of the celebrant and the remarkably large maniple.
