Retablo Mayor de Sevilla

The largest reredos in the world which is located in the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See in Seville. It was designed in 1482 by Pierre Dancart – a Flemish artist who also took part in the process of its construction. It took over 80 years to build it. The reredos was carved in wood and then gilded. It is over 27 metres high and 18 metres wide. Around 1000 statues depict 45 scenes, mostly from the life of Jesus.
