Opening

The opening of the Holy Door of the Vatican Basilica on the day of the beginning of the XXIII Jubilee Year, December 24, 1924. Pope Pius XI kneeling on the threshold is holding a ferula in one hand, and a candle in the other one. This was changed by Paul VI, who introduced the usage of a ferula during papal pontifical Masses.
